Latest Update: Save Our Green Belt
The Stage 2 public hearings on Enfield Council’s draft Local Plan 2019–2041 have now started. The Hadley Wood site (Duchy of Lancaster-owned Green Belt fields) was discussed on 19 June 2025. We were represented by Rupert Warren KC, one of the UK’s leading planning barristers.
The hearings will continue over the coming months, covering other proposed Green Belt release sites and, later, the Council’s new planning policies. A final decision on the Hadley Wood site is not expected until later this year.
The national planning context is becoming more challenging. The current government has set a target of 1.5 million new homes and has weakened national Green Belt protections to help meet it. Meanwhile, the Mayor of London is due to publish a report identifying parts of the Green Belt that could be reclassified as "grey belt" and released for development. This should not directly affect us, as our Green Belt site does not meet the criteria for land that is effectively being downgraded to ‘grey belt’.
Engaging a first-class barrister, who regularly advises the government on planning matters, was the right decision. A sincere thank you to all who donated to the Save Our Green Belt Fund. Your support made this vital representation possible.

Conserve & Protect our Green Belt
Please look at this video to see why we need to conserve and protect the Green Belt of Hadley Wood |
The Hadley Wood Association exists to make Hadley Wood a better place in which to live and work; to ensure that changes enhance the area, to encourage sound planning and to improve public transport and safety.
As a social hub the Association is at the heart of Hadley Wood, staging or facilitating a range of events for the whole community.
We lease 27 acres of open space either side of the railway station, enabling public access and preserving this land for future generations.

The Association community centre is used for a variety of social and sporting events and is available for lettings. It also provides a venue for a pre-school and the Bridge club. The 27 acres of land includes football grounds and seven tennis courts operated by the Hadley Wood Lawn Tennis Club, one of the oldest tennis clubs in North London.
