HWA 2020 - A Vision for the Future
As well as a chance to celebrate the past, anniversaries provide the perfect opportunity to look to the future. And that’s just what your Hadley Wood Association (HWA) wants to do as it marks the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the HWA Centre in Crescent East.
The Trustees and Committee of HWA would like to put forward HWA 2020 – a vision for the future. This bold, ambitious plan will benefit our entire community, young and old. It builds on and expands HWA’s current offer – hosting activities, stewardship of green spaces, partnerships with voluntary groups, and campaigning on local issues such as Treegate.
Key to HWA 2020 is the redevelopment of the HWA Centre in Crescent East. The proposal is to create a bigger, multi-purpose, flexible space that will accommodate existing users, such as the Preschool and Ballet, Tennis and Bridge clubs, as well as a wide variety of new users. These could include holiday clubs during school breaks; Scouts and Guides; health-focussed groups and fitness classes; music, dance and drama sessions; and family classes such as baby sensory or toddler music. There could be a dedicated space for badminton, indoor tennis, volleyball and netball; a meeting room for, say, health visitors or surgeries with local councillors; and a secure unit for the police base. And the building itself would be more user-friendly with full disabled access, improved toilet facilities, and buggy and cycle shelters.
As already stated, this is an ambitious plan. But by its very nature it would make the HWA Centre the hub and focal point of the local community. What we need now are the support, views and expertise of Hadley Wood residents to shape these basic ideas.
Come to the AGM on November 14th to learn more and get your opinions heard.
