Hadley
Wood Green Sports C.C. is the cricket club affiliated
to the Hadley Wood Association. We were formed in 1996 following
a merger between Hadley Wood C.C. and the long-established Wood
Green Sports C.C. (formed 1908). The Club operates a single
team, playing Fullers Middlesex League games on Saturdays and
friendlies on Sundays. The playing standard is, on average,
about that of a Club III XI.
We play 40-45 games a season. We also have a 4-game Club tour
(Sunday to Wednesday).
All home games are played in the
rural setting of the Hadley Wood ground. One of the Club’s longest
serving members, Mike Davey, whiles away many of his summer
evenings maintaining what has now become a very good playing
surface (in fact, the wicket was voted ‘best in Division’ by
opposing captains in the 2001 season).
We’re a friendly, sociable club, and many of us have played
together for more years than we care to remember (we’ve long
given up talking about the average age of the side, suffice
to say it’s nearer 40 than 30 - in fact, it’s often (well) over
40!). Like many small clubs, we are always keen to welcome new
players of any standard. So, if there’s anyone out there who’d
like a game with us, or if you have cricket-playing friends
who’re looking for a Club in the Hadley Wood area, don’t hesitate
to give us a call. The best point of contact is Steve Spicer,
the Club Chairman, on 07971 299180 or e-mail
steve@aspicer.freeserve.co.uk - or talk to Mike if you see
him mowing the pitch in the summer.
We also have indoor nets every Monday evening before the start
of the season at Ilford Indoor Cricket School (run by Joe Hussein
- Nasser’s Dad!). You’d be welcome to join us - £3 a session.
