The battle of barnet

JOHN NORTHAM
1935 - 2014

The Battle of Barnet

The following paper on the Battle of Barnet is based closely on notes of a talk which John gave at the Oxford and Cambridge Club, Pall Mall, in 2014. Although he studied law at St John’s College, Cambridge, and went on to pursue a distinguished career in the legal profession in Holborn and the City, John was a keen amateur historian throughout his life and had a lively interest in military history.
John was a committed member of the local community in Hadley Wood and Barnet. He was a Trustee of the Hadley Wood Association, St Paul’s Church Hadley Wood and Barnet College, and for seven years was Chairman of the Hadley Wood Golf Club. He was also President of the Old Cholmeleian (Highgate School) Society, and for more than 10 years John worked for the Citizens Advice Bureau in New Barnet.
John and his wife, Jill, lived in Hadley Wood since 1967 where they brought up their children, Nick, Phyllida, Chris and Tim.
