The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on train services has been keenly felt by rail users. Although GTR promised Hadley Wood a Great Northern Metro service of 4 trains per hour every day of the week as a result of HWRUG campaigning in GTR's 2018 timetable consultation, the entire rail industry is being reformed through Great British Railways and widespread new ways of working call pre-pandemic timetable plans into question.

- Always check before you travel: use National Rail Enquiries of the Thameslink On Track app (link please)
- Route planning above ground: You can reach Central London and beyond by making the easy change across the island platform at Finsbury Park on to Thameslink services direct to St Pancras International and other central stations, and on to Gatwick, Brighton and other southern destinations. This avoids the need to change on to the tube.
- Step free interchange between tube and train at Finsbury Park: Two lifts provide a step free interchange southbound from GTR platforms 1 & 2 to the Piccadilly Line. Work is underway to complete lift facilities to serve northbound passengers. Note that GTR passengers have to climb about 40 stairs from the central corridor to platforms 7 & 8.
