What is happening at our station?
HWRUG engages with GTR and Network Rail to achieve enhancements and overdue maintenance to our station. Read about major successes below.
Passenger Benefit Fund
HWRUG’s bid for enhancements under the Passenger Benefit Fund of 2019 was successful and the station now has an accessible toilet and adequate audible and visible customer information facilities throughout the length of accessible Platform 4. These enhancements complement the step-free facilities at our station which were introduced from 2017 thanks to HWRUG’s first campaign.
The Passenger Benefit Fund was set up at the direction of the DfT in recompense for the 2018 Timetable Debacle and Hadley Wood was allocated £80,000 as one of the worst affected stations,

Hadley Wood leads the way with life-saving equipment
In December 2019, Hadley Wood was chosen by GTR Great Northern as the launch site for their programme to install a defibrillator at every station and HWRUG held a special celebratory event for rail users and all the local community. Monken Hadley Church Choir and friends welcomed everyone with Christmas carols and the ticket hall was packed for a demonstration of the defibrillator on “Annie”, a long-suffering dummy. Our guest of honour was honorary Hadley Wooder Georgie Parkes, née Horlock, who spoke movingly of her own experience of a cardiac arrest five years ago when she was only 24. Georgie said, "It brought me back to life. I was very lucky to have that defibrillator. It has meant I have had a second chance at life. I went on to get married and now have a beautiful one-year-old daughter." Everyone then joined in a rousing rendition of the “Hadley Wood Heart Carol”, words written specially for the occasion to the tune of “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”!
